Governor Wolf Signs Bill to Help Individuals with Disabilities Save for Future Expenses

first_imgGovernor Wolf Signs Bill to Help Individuals with Disabilities Save for Future Expenses Bill Signing,  Healthcare,  Human Services,  Press Release,  Results Harrisburg, PA — Governor Wolf today signed into law the Pennsylvania Achieving a Better Life Experience Act (PA ABLE) that enables the creation of tax-exempt savings accounts specifically for people with qualified disabilities and their families. The accounts can be used for a wide-range of disability-related expenses including health care, housing, and transportation without jeopardizing eligibility for important programs on which individuals with disabilities must often depend.“My administration is committed to promoting and encouraging independence, community-based supports and services, and employment for individuals with a disability,” said Governor Wolf. “Pennsylvanians with disabilities can now achieve greater fiscal self-sufficiency, without the risk of impacting their eligibility for benefits. I am proud to sign this bill today and continue our work to help individuals with disabilities stay in their homes and communities.”U.S. Senator Bob Casey led efforts to win Congressional passage of the federal ABLE Act, which authorized states to establish tax-exempt savings accounts modeled on section 529 of the Internal Revenue Code, which recognizes state-established savings programs to meet future college expenses. Pennsylvania Treasury has been administering the Pennsylvania 529 program since 1993 and will administer the ABLE Program.“From the time I and other members of Congress began working on the ABLE Act, it was rooted in a belief that we all share: that those with disabilities have a lot of ability,” said Senator Casey. “I believe that every child is born with a light inside of them, and that it’s the abiding obligation of all those in public office to do all we can to help that light shine. I commend Governor Wolf, Senator Lisa Baker of Luzerne County, and all the members of the General Assembly for their work in making ABLE a reality in Pennsylvania.”“Thank you to Senator Casey, Governor Wolf and the legislature for their cooperative efforts in working with Treasury to make the PA ABLE Savings Account Program a reality,” said Pennsylvania Treasurer Timothy Reese. “Treasury has already started working with all the stakeholders to make the program operational and promote ABLE accounts so we can soon help ease the financial burdens facing people with disabilities.”Under the new law benefits of the program include:Savings of up to $14,000 each year.Tax-free growth.Use of the account to pay for a wide range of disability-related expenses.Federal and state income tax-free withdrawals when used for qualified disability expenses.Exemption from Pennsylvania inheritance tax.“ABLE accounts will encourage more individuals to work and save money without losing their benefits,” said Department of Human Services Secretary Ted Dallas. “We want to ensure that all commonwealth residents can to be as independent as possible, working at fulfilling jobs that pay and setting money aside for savings. The ABLE Act can help more Pennsylvania residents to live the American dream.”Significantly, for many individuals with disabilities, ABLE savings are excluded from eligibility determinations for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits (savings up to $100,000), other means-tested federal programs, Medical Assistance, and other state means-tested disability and health benefits.Treasury has created a website with more information on the ABLE program and where those interested can sign up for updates and open an account when the program is available. Treasury will work with other state agencies and disability support and advocacy organizations to create a savings program that will serve the very diverse needs of individuals with disabilities and their families. The goal is to offer the program in the fourth quarter of 2016.# # # SHARE Email Facebook Twittercenter_img April 18, 2016last_img read more

World Cup winning De Rossi retires at 36

first_imgRelatedPosts Pedro pens three-year Roma deal Tevez signs new deal with Boca Juniors US billionaire buys Roma in £532m deal Italy World Cup winner Daniele de Rossi has announced his retirement at the age of 36. De Rossi has left Argentine side Boca Juniors, who he joined in the summer, and ends an 18-year career. Prior to joining Boca, De Rossi spent his entire career at Serie A club Roma, who he played for 616 times. The Italian, who won the World Cup in 2006, told a news conference he was retiring to spend more time with his family. “I played against the best in the world and I was able to do the career I wanted,” De Rossi said. “I am happy with my life, I played on two teams that I really love. One meant everything and the other got me inside as I expected.” De Rossi is Italy’s fourth most-capped player with 117 caps and Francesco Totti is the only player to have made more appearances for Roma than the midfielder. He rejected an offer of a director’s role at Roma at the end of last season and signed for Boca to continue his playing career, but he has been limited to just six appearances, largely because of injury. “An absolutely fantastic football career comes to an end,” Roma said. “Thank you for so many incredible memories, Daniele.”Tags: Boca JuniorsDaniele De RossiRomalast_img read more

Spain’s Lopetegui Sacked on Eve of World Cup

first_imgHe said: “We have been forced to dispense with the national coach, we wish him the best of luck, what the Spanish gets, will have to do with the work he has developed.“We have to work on a series of decisions that come two days before the beginning of Russia 2018. There is a lot to do.“I do not feel betrayed, Lopetegui, while he has been with us, has done an impeccable job, another is how this has been done, without knowledge of the federation.“We will touch the staff as little as possible, as soon as we have something to communicate, we will do it.”Spain’s World Cup campaign is now in chaos with their first game against Portugal on Friday. On Tuesday, Real Madrid announced the Spain boss would take over as their new manager following Spain’s involvement in the World Cup.“Julen Lopetegui will be the Real Madrid coach after the celebration of the 2018 World Cup,” the Real Madrid statement read.“Real Madrid C. F. announce that Julen Lopetegui will be the coach of the first team during the next three seasons.“Julen Lopetegui will join the club after Spain’s participation in the World Cup, after two years leading the national team.”And now the 51-year-old will be replaced a day before the tournament starts.Rubiales is said to be fuming at the Real Madrid announcement, only learning about it 15 minutes before it was made public, after Lopetegui signed a new deal with Spain until 2020 on May 22.But now it is being reported that the players – led by Sergio Ramos – wanted him to stay.Spain are among the favourites for the tournament but face a huge task should Lopetegui go.It is being claimed the most likely candidates to replace him are Under 21 manager Albert Celades or Fernando Hierro.Spain open their campaign on Friday against Portgual before facing Iran and Morocco. The press in Spain were split on the decision to make the announcement of the appointment now.Spanish newspaper SPORT branded the appointment as ‘reprehensible’.“The consequences of it can be disastrous for the Spanish team,” wrote Lluis Miguelsanz.“What is clear is that Lopetegui has been negotiating his future as the new Los Blancos coach while preparing for the World Cup, something that is ethically already reprehensible.“There is no doubt that the coach has all the right in the world to train whoever he wants, but his standing is questioned by the proximity of the start of the competition.“The situation demands immediate explanations.”Spanish newspaper Marca, meanwhile, appeared to defend Real for their appointment and dampened down worries over its timing.Marca, known to be a Real mouthpiece, published: “That it was not the ideal moment is evident … but it is also true that circumstances have determined this outcome. They added: “It is clear that the arrival of coach Julen to Madrid has not been done at the most opportune time for the national team.“But with the professionalism and commitment of all, the squad should not be affected. Costa will be given ‘complete rest’

first_imgChelsea boss Jose Mourinho has revealed that Diego Costa will have a period of absolute rest after this weekend’s match against Liverpool. The striker will not even be required to report for treatment on a hamstring problem for a few days ahead of the Blues’ game against West Brom on 22 November.Costa’s injury has been a worry since early in the season and Mourinho was annoyed that he was involved in matches for Spain last month despite concerns over his fitness.“He will have 15 days to finally rest and work properly.”Jose MourinhoHe has not been included in Spain’s squad for games against Belarus and Germany, at last giving Chelsea the kind of chance to give him a proper rest they have been hoping for.And Mourinho, who insists he had no influence over the decision to omit Costa, says the club plan to take full advantage of the situation. He explained: “The plan is immediately after the Liverpool match to have a period of complete rest – no training, no treatment, not even a massage on his muscle. Nothing – just let him rest a few days.“After that, there is specific work he is doing and we don’t have another match to play, so it’s very good news for him.”Costa missed four Chelsea matches and was also affected by an illness after recently playing for his country in games against Luxembourg and Slovakia.Mourinho has attempted to rest him at times, including for this week’s Champions League game against Maribor.“He was protected for the Champions League match but because the [half-time] result was not good, I couldn’t protect him and I had to play him for 45 minutes,” Mourinho said.“As a consequence of the work we are doing with him, I think he’s ready to start the match against Liverpool.“Then he will have 15 days to finally rest and work properly. It’s fantastic news.”See also:Spain leave out Chelsea striker CostaChelsea boss relishes Anfield atmosphereRemy passed fit to return for ChelseaChelsea set to make decision on FabregasFollow West London Sport on TwitterFind us on Facebooklast_img read more

Sport to combat homophobia

first_imgToday marks International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO) and the theme for this year’s campaign is ‘Speaking about silence – homophobia in the sports world’.ASC Sports Performance and Development Assistant Director Nadine Cohen said that a recent national survey of same-sex attracted young people identified that the second-most threatening environment for abuse was within sport.‘To address these concerns, the ASC and the VEOHRC are trialling a 12 month anti-homophobia project to reduce the experience and impact of homophobia in a national sporting code, which will form the benchmark strategy for other sporting codes and their governing bodies,’ Cohen said.‘We are working with the VEOHRC to effect cultural and behavioural change in sport across many areas including bullying and harassment, player well-being and discrimination, with a focus on addressing homophobia.’VEOHRC’s Commissioner Dr Helen Szoke said the project will aim to saturate one sporting code with a range of resources and information and capacity-building materials to address the issue of homophobia in sport.‘The pilot program sport will be announced in June 2010,’ Szoke said.‘In the general sense, we understand sport is a very powerful vehicle to reach the population, to educate and empower, to enable people’s voices to be heard.’The project will determine effective ways to create safe and welcoming sporting environments through the prevention of homophobic behaviour.  It will also establish how these strategies can be adapted to reduce the occurrence of other discriminatory barriers to sport participation.‘The ASC is committed to partnering with the sport industry to uphold the principles of fairness, respect, responsibility and safety.  Being a part of promoting IDAHO and working with the VEOHRC are some of the initiatives the ASC is focusing on to maximise participation of all Australians in sport, regardless of their ethnicity, religion, sexuality or gender,’ Cohen said.Sexuality Discrimination & Homophobia ASC LinkVisit the Play By the Rules Website, for interactive scenarios, role specific information (athletes, coaches and administrators) and additional resources.last_img read more

They can’t go for a sustained time without that.””Manchester United is the world’s biggest sports brand and everyone wants to be associated with that because the club is associated with success,” he said.”The gloss of the moderate success Jose Mourinho achieved was beginning to dust slightly.” last_img read more

I accept that as part of the modern football world.”We will deal with that and keep our business to ourselves – I am not one to go out and individually discuss other players all the time.”I am sometimes amused to see players linked with other clubs where I don’t see any connection whatsoever but on occasions you have to think, ‘maybe they have heard a rumour and they’re not so far off’.” last_img read more

It’s obviously nice to contribute to a top team like this – and I feel that’s the first of big moments me for this season,” he said.”Just because I’ve not started any of the first nine games, I don’t think that means I am not going to play a big part in this team.“Can this be my season? Of course, yeah. It’s a long old season. We’ve got the World Club Cup to come. The Champions League this week, the Premier League at the weekend, the Carabao Cup next week.“So it’s important to stay strong and be ready. That’s where my focus will be and I’m delighted I can make an impact when I get the chance.” Lallana added: “Listen, obviously I feel like I’ve been fit for a good year now, especially since coming back from pre-season. But we’re European champions, we’ve got a top squad, so I’ve had to be patient for my chance.“I’ve done that, and I am delighted to come on and make an impact like that. We are a top team, so to be able to contribute to it is important.” last_img read more
