Lightning Strikes Twice! Murray Splits From Coach Again

first_imgFormer world number one Andy Murray has split with coach Ivan Lendl again by “mutual agreement”.Their first stint together was from 2012 to 2014 when the Scot won Wimbledon, the US Open and Olympic gold.French coach Amelie Mauresmo replaced Lendl as Murray’s coach before he returned in 2016 and that provided the catalyst for a second Wimbledon title and a second Olympic gold in addition to his ascension to the world number one spot later that year. While speaking about the major step he has taken, Murray said: “I’m thankful to Ivan for his help and guidance over the years.”“We’ve had great success and learned a lot as a team. My focus now is on getting ready for Australia with the team I have in place and getting back to competing.” he added.Eight-time Grand Slam winner and former world number one Lendl, 57, added: “I wish Andy well. We had a great run and a lot of fun.”Murray has dropped to 16th in the world rankings due to the fact that he has been recovering from a hip injury with his last competitive match coming in July when he was beaten by Sam Querrey in their quarter-final clash at the 2017 Wimbledon Open.Amidst his injury woes, Murray was able to feature in a charity match against Roger Federer earlier this month.
