(Photo by Scott Cunningham/Getty Images)Some South Carolina players accused Clemson players and fans of using racial slurs during Saturday’s rivalry game. Dabo Swinney has responded.Earlier, it was reported that Clemson players and fans had allegedly hurled racial slurs toward South Carolina players in the Tigers’ 56-7 uprooting of the Gamecocks. Sunday evening, Swinney spoke to the media, and fielded at least one question regarding the alleged usage of racial slurs by his players. His response, per TigerNet.com:“I was made aware of that,” Swinney said. “Obviously everybody is talking about that. That’s a shame. Absolutely I asked my guys about that. To a man absolutely false and I believe my guys. I know the character of my team. That’s all there is to say about it.”It’s obvious why he’d want to downplay the incident. It’s not a good look for the program or the school and it takes the focus off the Tigers, who are about to play in the ACC Championship game versus Virginia Tech. But still, the use of racial slurs is probably not something that multiple people would make up just for kicks. Whether it was Clemson players or fans, the fact the question was raised is not a good look.last_img read more
